Writing

Linux Kernel Development is a tour de force on hacking and understanding the Linux kernel. Now in its third edition and based on the 2.6.34 kernel, Linux Kernel Development is the definitive Linux kernel book. You should buy a copy and carry it with you everywhere you go.

Linux System Programming, subtitled Talking Directly to the Kernel and C Library, is Stevens for the Linux era. Rife with Linux-specific interfaces and insider knowledge, it is a great reference for all Linux programmers.

I coauthored Linux in a Nutshell, now in its sixth edition, the authoritative command reference for Linux. Awarded "best Linux book of all time" by Linux Journal's 2009 Readers' Choice Awards, every Linux user needs a copy.

I am a writer and Contributing Editor at Linux Journal.

Software

I hack on the Linux kernel.

Android is a soup to nuts software platform, aimed at opening up the mobile world.

GNOME Volume Manager is a HAL-based storage policy engine for the GNOME desktop.

Project Utopia is an umbrella effort to improve the integration of the Linux desktop, from hardware up through application.

Beagle is a search infrastructure that ransacks your personal information space to find whatever you are looking for.

In the past, I maintained procps, the package that contains ps and top. My last release was 2.0.17.

schedutils is a set of tools for manipulating process attributes. It is now part of util-linux; my last standalone release was 1.5.0.
